Downtown Belgrade was a festive sea of Santa Red as thousands dressed up for the fourth-annual “Santa Race,” this week’s edition of “Friday Photos From…” which we share on the eve of Eastern Orthodox Christmas.
The 1,000 meter charity race attracted all types of runners (and strollers) from throughout Serbia and other countries, who gathered to promote sports and raise money benefitting a national association for autistic children. Physical fitness teacher Milan Milicevic was the fastest of Santas, eclipsing his goal to simply be among the top 30 racers. The first female Santa to cross the finish line was Maria Stambovic, a track and field athlete, who, after receiving her trophy said. “I will celebrate later in the day by eating a sweet prize at home.”
The “Racing of the Santas” has quickly became an indispensable part of the New Year’s atmosphere in Belgrade. If you were there, share your photos as well!
