Muslim Women Athletes And The Hijab
With news that the International Weightlifting Federation has changed its rules to allow athletes to wear Islamic dress, the London Games will feature the first team, from the United Arab Emirates, to compete in an international competition in hijab. After disqualifying Iran’s female team on the basis of their head scarves, soccer’s FIFA governing body also looks set to accommodate Islamic norms.
